EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN

Brentwood's School Safety Department Emergency Action Plan was developed to minimize panic and confusion in the event of an emergency on the school grounds or the surrounding area within the community.

Brentwood's School Safety Department is meant to coordinate the strategic, tactical responses of the District, and their agencies to any type of crisis or emergency that could arise.

Declaration of an Emergency
In the event of a major catastrophic emergency, the Brentwood's School Safety Department will work directly with the city, state, local businesses, or other institutions and federal support agencies to best manage the situation.

Emergencies will be categorized as:

Minor Incident: If the emergency involves only one building or a small part of the campus.

Major Incident/Disaster: If the emergency involves a large part of the campus.

During a District emergency, the Brentwood's School Safety Department will take immediate action to implement the appropriate procedures to manage the emergency. These procedures are meant to safeguard persons and property and to secure facilities.

When an emergency declaration is made, there may be instances when only authorized individuals are permitted to be in the area.

At the conclusion of the emergency, the Director of School Safety, or his designee, will issue a statement declaring the emergency over, thus allowing the school or schools to return to normal operating procedures.

If necessary, business continuity plans will be put into effect to address any long term consequences.

In the event of an actual emergency, the District main webpage, (http://www.brentwood.k12.ny.us) will provide up to date information. Other instruments of communication will include but are not limited to: text messaging, local radio/TV stations, email, voicemail, alarm systems, word of mouth and through speaker systems used by the emergency responders.

SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT

Brentwood Union Free School District
5300 CODE OF CONDUCT
5300.05 Introduction

The Board of Education (the “Board”) of the Brentwood UFSD (the “District”) is committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment where students may receive and District personnel may deliver quality educational services without disruption or interference. Responsible behavior by students, teachers, other District personnel, parents and visitors is essential to achieving this goal.  The district has a long-standing set of expectations for conduct on school property and at school functions. These expectations are based on the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, tolerance, honesty and integrity. The Board recognizes the need to clearly define these expectations for acceptable conduct on school property, to identify the possible consequences of unacceptable conduct, and to ensure that discipline, when necessary, is administered promptly and fairly. To this end, the Board adopts this Code of Conduct (the “Code”). Unless otherwise indicated, this Code applies to all students, school personnel, parents and visitors when on school property or attending a school function.
